Compress 2000 is designed to be the easiest to use, but this does not cost you in speed and compression.  It shares the speed lead with other popular Zip tools.  (Zip is a mature file format and there isn't much of a speed or size improvements to be made.)

Some users prefer the RAR format (WinRAR) or the ACE format (WinACE) because they do compress a little better than Zip – about 1% to 7% in these tests.  On the other hand, they run much slower – from 2 times to 5 times slower!
